Revenge of the Quackenbush Brothers!

Last night was a great piece of Detroit Rock History as hundreds gathered for the Scott Morgan benefit at The 1477 Grill (Mario’s) in Troy, MI. Every parking lot within walking distance was packed with cars and there must have been 500 people (or easily more) in Mario’s, including many notable Detroit Rockers. The main area and the patio were standing room only.

There was a room set up with auction items including a Fender guitar autographed by members of Frigid Pink, Seger posters, Scott Morgan photos, and poster art by Carl Lundgren.

About 9:30 p.m., Frigid Pink kicked off the night with a great set reminiscent of the 60’s, which included their big hit “House Of The Rising Sun”. The crowd really enjoyed them and gave them a number of rousing ovations.

Next to play were Gary Quackenbush and the SRC All Stars. Ed the keyboard player was out of town and filling in for him was none other than Glenn Quackenbush, along with regulars (the amazing) Larry Calder on guitar and vocals, Ralph Serafino on drums of thunder, and Ralph McKee on bass and vocals, with Gary Quackenbush playing lead guitar. During their introduction, Doug Podell joked that this was once again “The Revenge Of The Quackenbush Brothers”. They played a blistering set of mostly SRC classics with Glenn and Gary playing particularly well, driven by the energy of the packed crowd. SRC classics they played included I’m So Glad, Checkmate, Up All Night, Black Sheep, No Secret Destination, Get The Picture, and of course finishing the night with Bolero to everyones satisfaction.

There were other SRC members present at the event including founding member Steve Lyman, and former lead guitarist Ray Goodman.

I trust that Scott Morgan did very well, considering the turnout, and hope that a goodly sum was raised to help with his medical expenses. We wish Scott good health and much success in the future. To all of you who came out and participated, much thanks!
